Cardinal Festival of speed: a car show for the community

CRD’s officially recognized club, the Society of Automotive Engineers, have joined an collaborative effort with multiple organizations on campus such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Cardinal Energy, to throw a community focused car show for Lamar University’s Homecoming week. Huge thanks to Spindletop for allowing us to help and providing the accomodations for our first event!

Being part of a race team as an engineer provides a unique platform to emphasize the importance of giving back to the community. While the primary focus of a race team is often on achieving success on the track, the broader impact it can have on the community is equally significant.

Many of us on the team were inspired by fast cars and even faster heart rates after witnessing in person, vehicles that seemed to only exist on television. Participation in a racing team can act as a catalyst for inspiring aspiring engineers in the community. This direct exposure has the potential to spark a genuine passion for engineering among the younger generation. Through proactive involvement with nearby schools, colleges, and educational institutions, the team has the opportunity to demonstrate the practical applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines in the real world. We look forward to the spring semester where we will be able to showcase the vehicle we have been working on all semester!
